INEGA - Spain

INSTITUTO ENERXÉTICO DE GALICIA (INEGA)

The "Instituto Enerxético de Galicia" (INEGA) was created in 1999 (Law 3/1999, March 11th; published in the Official Journal of Galicia, No.61, March 30th 1999). On the bases of orienting and defining the energy policy of the Xunta de Galicia, coordinated with the National Energy Plan, the objectives of the INEGA are: to promote the simultaneous development of the economy and employment in Galicia, to ensure satisfaction on energy demand, to encourage rational use of energy by promoting the development of renewable energies reducing dependence on outside sources, and to conserve and protect the environment.

The Instituto Enerxético de Galicia is hereby set up as the public body of the Autonomous Community in charge of the development of the Galician energy policy, with the important advantage of exploiting existing structures in this field for the performance of its tasks.

GALICIA (SPAIN) --> More information about Galicia

Galicia is an autonomous community of Spain. It is located in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula. It borders with Portugal to the South, the Spanish regions of Castile and León and Asturias to the East, and the Atlantic Ocean to the North and West.

From 1833 onwards, the seven original provinces of the 15th century have been limited to just four:

A CORUÑA --> More information about A Coruña (Province)

In relation to the population distribution, the most characteristic features are the large number of small population centres (approximately 30,000 entities divided among 315 municipalities), geographical dispersion and a low degree of urbanisation.

The main cities are Vigo, A Coruña, Pontevedra, Lugo, Ferrol, Ourense, and Santiago de Compostela, the capital and archiepiscopal seat, and home of the shrine which gave rise to medieval Europe's most famous pilgrimage route, The Way of St James.
