Municipality of Egaleo

Egaleo municipality is one of the
largest municipalities within the wider Athens metropolitan area. It lies at the
west territory of Athens suburbs along the ancient so-called “Iera Odos”
(denoting in Greek language the ”Sacred Route”). The municipality has been named
after the mount Egaleo from where the Persian king Xerxes watched the
destruction of his fleet by the Greek fleet during the historical sea battle of
Salamina. The ancient river Kifissos crosses its territory and a part of the
municipality was “Attica Olivefield”, which during the ancient times was the
meeting point for discussion of Socrates and Plato.
Nowadays, the municipality has about 120.000
people that live and work there on a service-based economical structure
composed mainly out of small-medium enterprises. It is a historical
municipality with great perception regarding a sustainable development towards
the future.
