Municipality of Maroussi

Municipality of Maroussi is one of the
most important –in economic terms- municipalities of Athens city. It lies below
Penteli mountain and its founding goes back in ancient times - documented by
the first written report for Maroussi – dated approx. in 1354 B.C.
Its distance from Athens City centre
is almost 11km and it currently has about 70.000 inhabitants. It is a
municipality that posed a key role to the Athens Olympics of 2004 as many
facilities for the Olympics lie within its territory and for that reason the
municipal mechanisms where activated in a way to ensure the best hospitality
available for the visitors along with ensuring the respect to the environment
and the continuation of the city life.
The municipality region covers a
total surface of 16,2 km2. Maroussi is a modern municipality that
focuses on sustainable development in respect to the future generations.
