Vilkaviskis district is in the southwest of Lithuania. District area is 1259 sq km. Population is 48.6 thousands. The district is divided into 12 smaller units called seniunijos. There are three towns: Vilkaviskis, Kybartai and Virbalis. The district administrative centre is Vilkaviskis (population 13 thousands).
There are 62 lakes and ponds, 14 mounds in the district. Nature wealth is preserved in nature reserves and in the Vistytis regional park.
