Connection Method:
Annual Energy Consumption:
The Building uses 732 Mwh of electricity and 433 Mwh of Oil per annum resulting in the emmiting of approx 278 tonnes of CO2 per annum.
Main Energy Consuming Equipment
A Detailed energy audit of this building was conducted over the summer of 2007. The Energy usage of the building was consistant with large office blocks using 189 kwh/ M2 / annum. The breakdown was as follows:
- Heating and cooling 41%
- Lighting 31%
- Office Equipment 21%
- Kitchen equipment, ancilary equipment and water supply 7%
Cost and Energy Saving Actions
There are a large number of energy saving reccomndations, a summary of them follows:
1. Lighting controls.
The building has some area's that are excessively lit.
The area's of the building with large amounts of glazing has the lights switched on even on bright days. The controls do not allow the staff to switch them off or turn them down.
The carpark lights are all left on at night, even when there is no building or car park users.
2. Heating Controls
The Heating controls do not account for internal space tempreature gains or solar gains
There is no facility to use night rate electricity to pre-heat the underfloor slab system, therefore using expensive electricity to run the heat pump, and overheat the rooms during the day.
Where it is possible to use natural ventilation to cool the building, it is not used.
